How to Ride in Long Distances without Getting Tired

Cycling is one of the best physical activities that you can do. Not only can it significantly affect your health, you get to explore new places, too!
However, cycling can really test your body’s endurance, especially if it’s your first time to go on long rides or steep roads. Fortunately, we got a few tips and tricks to help you cycle long distances without getting tired.
1. Maintain proper riding position
The first thing you should do is to maintain proper riding position.
For beginners, it’s best to maintain an upright position in which the handles are just above the saddle. Avoid speeding up when you’re in this position as it would require you to pedal harder, therefore, you’ll go tired easily.
If you want to go for a faster ride, place your handles lower than the saddle to achieve an aero position. This technique will reduce the wind resistance. On the other hand, if you’re riding downhill, make sure to put your body weight behind the saddle. This will help you maintain your balance–note that maintaining balance also requires energy, too.
2. Use only the essential biking accessories
In traveling, less is more–especially when you're cycling.

There are already lots of biking accessories available in the market today. While they all serve their own function, you really don’t have to bring each of them on your ride.
It’s best to stick with the basics–helmet, a good front and rear light combo, navigation device, and a compact yet sturdy top-post bag for your stuff.
3. Ride with a group
Cycling with other people can help you in getting an easier ride.
Riding with a group can help you ride against headwind without withstanding excessive resistance. You can take turns riding in front of your group when facing headwind so that each of you can have ample rest.
Group rides also provide road safety. They give you heightened road visibility which reduces your risk of getting into bike-related road accidents. Don’t be mistaken on the importance of road visibility for bikers as it remains to be one of the major causes of bike accidents.
To further improve your group’s road visibility, you can get matching rear lights with group synchronization. With this feature, you can sync your light patterns when riding. Not only will it help in notifying other road users about your movement, but they might even enjoy seeing your patterned flashing lights.
4. Cut your path into three parts
Before riding, check your path on a map or a navigation app. Divide the entire distance into three parts.
This division system will allow you to rest in between your rides without significantly affecting your riding time. It’s highly recommended that you take a break for at least 5 minutes to recuperate your energy. It will also be helpful if you eat food filled with carbohydrates.
5. Breathe the right way
Last but not least, breathe properly when riding. While it may sound easier than it seems, you have to train yourself to breathe properly if you’re serious about improving your riding habits.

The right way to breathe while riding is to breathe with your diaphragm. Inhale with your stomach out and then contact it as you exhale. It will also be best to inhale in your nose and exhale through your mouth.
This breathing method will allow you to maintain an ideal oxygen level in your body without using that much energy.
